One of three old darkroom lights on our site, this Wratten Safelight, Series 2 is ready for new duty as an accent light in a party room or hallway. Maybe it could even fill in as an oversized nightlight. Be aware, this antique throws the least light of the three safelights; indeed, the difference between lit and unlit is very subtle. According to the product tag affixed to the front, the Series 2 is “For use with Verichrome Roll Film and Film Packs, Portrait Par-speed, Super-speed Ortho Portrait and Commercial Ortho Film, Ortho Press, “40,” “50,” Universal, Polychrome, S.C. and D.C. Ortho, Post Card plates, and Direct Positive Paper. Not suitable for panchromatic films or plates.” It’s doubtful whether any of those films still exist, but it certainly is a walk down history lane reading about them! This Series 2 Safelight is in great condition, with its original cord, a plywood box with light finish and, as near as can be determined, its original bulb. It would be the perfect gift for a photography buff or anyone looking for a sure conversation starter.
